“Lekker” (Flemish for “something delicious”) + Co (for Chocolate) = Lekkco. Inspired from Bram’s upbringing in Brugge, Belgium, he introduced his then girlfriend, Jennifer, to chocolate spreads when they started dating. Jennifer was raised on wheat germ and oatmeal and couldn’t believe that people actually ate chocolate for breakfast!
The couple married and began to bootleg – “Chicago Style” – chocolate spreads from Belgium for themselves. Then for family and friends, who loved the product and longed for their next “bootleg trip”. It was then Jennifer realized there was nothing like this in the U.S. market. That started her wheels spinning about the viability of a dark chocolate spread entering the US market.
Fifteen years after Jennifer’s first taste, she brought their favorite chocolate treat to the United States and launched Lekkco in 2017. Today, the couple share the European tradition of Lekkco with their two daughters.
